Ryan Ruel—also known by the artist’s name Morgan—is a DJ, producer, and lifelong student of electronic sound. His path started in the 80s, long before clubs and studios, when he began experimenting with the SID chip on his Commodore 64 as a kid. That early fascination with shaping tones and textures set the foundation for everything that followed.
Through the 90s, Ryan balanced classical piano training with a growing obsession for electronic music. Gradually he found his way toward the deeper, more underground sound of DJs like John Digweed, Sasha, Danny Howells, Anthony Pappa, and Danny Tenaglia. By 2005 he was learning the craft behind his own decks.
A turning point came when he connected with the crew at Rise in Boston. The club became a creative home base, and Ryan held a semimonthly residency there for nearly a decade. Most nights he took over the lounge from 1am until sunrise, shaping long, immersive sessions built on patience, groove, and atmosphere. Those hours—quiet, late, and unhurried—left a lasting imprint on his style.
Today, Ryan’s sound sits comfortably in the spaces between progressive house, techno, and dub techno. Whether performing as Ryan Ruel or Morgan, he gravitates toward deep rhythms, subtle movement, and the kind of slowburn energy that rewards listeners who lean in.
For Ryan, electronic music has always been about exploration—of sound, of mood, of the spaces where technology and emotion meet. Whether he’s crafting a mix or building a track from scratch, that curiosity remains what drives him.
